Juke/19 or Juke or 19 was a Japanese underground conceptual band, found in 1978 by the artist and painter Shinro Ohtake. An active phase of the project only lasted for about two years, with four LP albums released from December 1980 to September 1982. In a certain sense, Juke/19 pioneered and preceded the unique highly energetic (but sonically sophisticated) experimental/punk style, later developed by such bands like Boredoms. We only have a very few copies of each title.
Juke / 19 – Enban
Originally released in 1980 in response to “NO NEW YORK”, this work was performed and recorded by Shinro Otake, Takuji Nomoto, Toyama Toshiaki, and Yoko Ota in 1978-80 without having a meeting ! The strange sound that swallows noise, junk, rock, punk, etc. is just strange and unexpected . It also reminds Throbbing Gristle and LAFMS . The shortness of each song seems to make the raw and distorted sound and sometims with a light touch of pop. It contains 4 songs and includes liner notes by Manabu Yuasa. Mastered by Taku Unami. Comes in a special vinyl cover packaging.
