Incapacitants LP Extreme Gospel Night – Urashima

Extreme Gospel Nights is a shocking cassette from 1993, released by one of the Japanoise-defining labels, Vanilla Records, whose sound is particularly exciting, agonizingly dense and full of detail – there’s very little air to breathe here. Gospel refers to the place (in Tokyo) where the recordings were made, so don’t expect traditional spirituals. Instead you get some truly alien performances, complete with sporadic screaming of vivisected baboons drowning in the sonic sludge. There are two tracks on Vanilla tape; Bitter Insect on side A and the super lo-fi Accelerated No(i)sebleed on side B, in all probability recorded directly from the soundboard. Just pure, unadulterated electronic distortion of the highest quality done by two of the masters who have ever turned the knob on a distortion pedal that is fun, terrifying, hypnotic and fascinating all at the same time; their noise takes root not in violence or gimmickry, but in pure energy.  It also serves as great example of just what makes well done noise so great:  the layers of complexity that build upon each other reveal new and different textures and patterns on subsequent listenings.

Mastered by Toshiji Mikawa and reissued for the first time in vinyl, the record has been pressed on 140gr black vinyl with black label and black inner sleeve and comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard sleeve in 300 copies with Tomyodai-lighthouse photo (in the late Meiji) cover art plus an insert in classic paper ultra-bright with finish glossy plastic coating with perfect replica of original art from Vanilla Records tape cover. Each copy enveloped in tissue golden paper (plus sticker) as original tape release. Only a few !

la scène 裸身 CD 天の赤道  – Ten No Sekido – Inner Pleasure

Subtle and profound Japanese slowcore; It will transport you to the fount via the bowels of the sound. This work is created from a collaboration of Atsuo (Boris), especially inspired by his view about the voice. Each song exudes its presence like a small signpost glowing in the darkness, and its introspective sound swells as a form of therapy.
It features guest guitar by Hideki Yamagiwa (Katurei/Chi to Shizuku) and also guest vocals by Atsuo in 16mins title track “Ten no Sekido” Mastered by Soichiro Nakamura (PEACE MUSIC).

My best discovery (Thanks Dieter). An excellent  Dreamy Japanese slowcore with Saya voice (sometimes reminescent from Saya / Tenniscoats voice, a bit lower and  less “manierish”)  interrupted with intense guitar solos. A name that will probably grow, this one has our highest recommendations. The band shoud have a gig in UK in October, if you can help with finding some more dates in Europe, please get in touch with us or Patrick at Cadmus Tape

Not Waving / Jim O’Rourke LP

No Waving / Jim O’Rourke LP  “Side A / Side B” – Diagonal

Sold out at source !
Colour vinyl edition of 500 copies, housed in a screen printed polythene bag. Includes a download dropped to your account.
In a dream hook-up for Diagonal, Jim O’Rourke reimagines material from the vaults of Alessio Natalizia AKA Not Waving and turns in a magisterial kosmiche synth-scape, backed with a sprawling slab of mazy rhythmic brilliance. O’Rourke has been a long-time admirer of Not Waving, and what started out as more of straight remix project quickly turned into a collaboration-at-a-distance, with Natalizia sending extra material and pushing O’Rourke to stray as far from the original material as possible.
In both parts, he does him proud. ‘Side A’ renders an original chromatic synth knot into a spiralling, heavenly superstructure worthy of comparison with Popol Vuh, before the flip envelopes listeners in a hyper-baroque rave hall of mirrors — all iridescent arps and irregular, automated pulses that refract palatial imaginary spaces.

Akio Suzuki LP

Akio Suzuki LP “Jumping and Standing” Art Into Life

Limited edition pressing of 300 copies * Includes text insert by Akio Suzuki. Originally recorded in 1984, “Jumping and Standing” consists of a live performance at Musashino Art University by pioneering Japanese sound artist Akio Suzuki, accompanied by five toy rabbits. This long-awaited release epitomizes Suzuki’s approach to performance, imbued with a characteristic sense of humor and an organic interplay with his audiences, as evinced by uproarious laughter heard on the opening track. Now some three decades later, contemporary listeners are likewise drawn ever deeper into this novel noisescape featuring an ensemble of wind-up bunnies on broken boards, metallic fragments, and a reel-to-reel tape deck on the fritz.

Meno is the trio of  Hiroto Hayashi, Ikuro Takahashi & Kota Inukai

They are good old friends, they play guitar, bass & drums with Hayashi on vocals. Sometimes it reminds me a bit Kasuni trio but Hayashi’s voice is rawer, sometimes a bit raspy. Simple but a true pleasure for ears. Comes in a nice 15 x 21 cm cover.

Philipe Maté / Daniel Vallancien LP

Philipe Maté / Daniel Vallancien LP Souffle Continu Records

Souffle Continu Records present the first ever vinyl reissue of Philippe Maté/Daniel Vallancien, originally released in 1972. Although discrete, the career of saxophonist Philippe Maté includes nonetheless several indispensable albums: be it with the Acting TrioJean Guérin (Tacet), or Jef Gilson (Workshop), his collaborations in a big band or quartet with Lawrence “Butch” Morris, his presence in the Saxophone Quartet and also on the brilliant 1972 album L’Enfant Assassin Des Mouche by Jean-Claude Vannier (BMS 001CD, FKR 001X-LP). As for the man in the background: Daniel Vallancien, a sound engineer rarely featured on the sleeves; the collection Actuel on the BYG label owes much to him (he is at the controls behind Anthony BraxtonDon CherrySonny Sharrock, or Steve Lacy), and the same goes for Saravah for who he notably recorded AreskiBrigitte FontaineMaurice Lemaître, or the Cohelmec Ensemble. Not bad for starters! What is more, Daniel Vallancien is one of a prestigious group of French recording engineers with open ears and often themselves musicians, even if only occasionally for some, including Bruno MennyDaniel Deshays, or Jean-Marc Foussat, who have all recorded remarkable albums as leaders. Behind this collaboration was the idea of creating music which was free, direct, and spontaneous, while having also a minimum of advance planning. Music, according to the brief liner notes desirous to “remove itself from long and patient laboratory experiments“. So, there can be found here none of the sophisticated tools associated with electroacoustic research, but mainly a recording mixer console, which, in the hands of Daniel Vallancien acts directly on the original instrumental sound in real time, modifying and multiplying it while respecting the natural flow. Be it Paul MéfanoBetsy JolasGérard Grisey, or Jacques Lejeune, many contemporary composers working in France have, at one time or another, included the saxophone in their work. Nothing can compare to the singularity of the dialogue between Philippe Maté and Daniel Vallancien, which they themselves describe as being “serious, sarcastic or humorous”, with, here and there, “disturbing sounds”. Words, however, even those used by the protagonists themselves, are insufficient to describe such a sonic object, difficult to identify and, it has to be said, extraordinary. Licensed from Saravah. Gatefold sleeve; Obi strip Edition of 500

Sarry CD “Exspiravit Planeta” Jigen

New album by Fuji Yuki and 821. This new album is really a nice step as it sounds darker and more minimal, far from the Dead Can Dance sound. Bass turns into a cello, a bit of percussion and noise. Here that works fine, less is more

CD ltd to 250
Free Wind Mood  series
Label : An’archives
Ref : [An’15]
7 inch silkscreened jacket with obi (red or grey), insert and postcard
Printed by Alan Sherry

Albedo Fantastica  is the duo of  Keiko Higuchi  and Sachiko. Both of them are well known names to those who are evolving in the Japanese underground waters since each has been involved in many projects and each has a consisting discography on labels as Musik Atlach, Improvising Beings, Utech.  Their respective backgrounds are maybe a little bit different but they share a common interest in different genres from jazz and rock to free improvisation and have collaborated with a cast of various musicians in the likes of  Cris X, Fukuoka Rinji, Kawaguchi Masami, Uchida Shizuo, Shin-Ichiro Kanda…

Albedo Fantastica isn’t exception to the unexpected. This album is one of their most powerful performances and their first released on CD.  35 minutes of free spirits calling voices, piano, electronics and more , using all sonic waves to take any good listener to unknown shores. For sure it’s not a comfortable & easy album as the entire experience is rather intense and does not bear a distracted attention.  It requires engagement. Magicians, witches, shamans – just leave your landmarks behind you, as the whole performance will hook and embark you in an intense and unpredictable sonic trip.  Dive into a new dimension, call it psychedelic if you need to label such a bloody and uncompromised music – a listen that is not about to fall into oblivion with these two free women beating space and senses.
