Katra Turana CD

Katra Turana CD ” Reboot” Telegraph Records

Formed in 1980 by Atsushi Hiroike, vocalist, composer and arranger. After their early performance group activities, they released their first album “Katra Turana” on Telegraph Records in 1982. This album was also released in Europe through RECOMMENDED RECORDS in the UK. After a major line-up change, they released the 30cm single “The End – The Gradient of the Skin” (Switch Label, 1985) and their second album “KIMERA” (Telegraph Records, 1986). At the time of their first album, Atsushi Hiroike, who was dressed in women’s clothes and sang in a mysterious way, was often focused on, and the band was described as a “bizarre antique decadent music box” or “deformed chamber rock. However, they gradually started to aim for minimalistic and psychedelic avant-pop, and this trend became more pronounced when bassist Teko Kitajima joined the band. In any case, they were an outlier in the 80’s, when the New Wave was sweeping the scene. The band went on hiatus around 1990, but in December 2015, they held their first live revival in over 20 years at the Kichijoji Star Pines Cafe. The performance, which further promoted the musicality of the band’s later years, fascinated the packed audience with Atsushi Hiroike’s neutral and mysterious performance. This album also includes new songs.

Hisato Higuchi CD

Hisato Higuchi CD “キ、Que、消えん?Ki, Que, Kien?” WV Sorcerer

After over two decades of releases on P.S.F. Records, Family Vineyard, Apollolaan and his own label Ghost Disc, WV Sorcerer is honored to present the latest physical release of Tokyo-based musician Hisato Higuchi (樋口寿人). An album of melancholy guitar melody and whispers, like a longshot of the overflowing light on the Tokyo street, a monologue from far away. Hisato is responsible for some of the most breathtaking, delicate, and smoke-filled guitar playing side of Loren Connors or the quieter sides of Keiji Haino. Those comparisons perhaps help to give an idea of where Hisato’s work floats, but it’s clear listening to him that his work is a very personal musical expression. His music is a Tokyo labourer’s blues.

Keiko Higuchi LP

Keiko Higuchi LP “Vertical language” Black Editions

“More than simply an album title “Vertical Language” refers to the distinctive musical approach that Higuchi has developed over the past twenty years. Her music is centered on the breathe and pulse- rather than set ‘horizontal’ musical rhythms or structures. It illuminates the connection between the artist’s body and sound. In her music piano chords and voice sound out in an instant and expand, floating off in new directions. The music embraces silence and negative space or the Japanese concept of “Ma” as well as the small ‘imperfections’ that any moment or sound might contain. Each moment in her music is as much imbued with what came before as what will come next – each note expands in space and can never be seen from just one perspective. In her music, Higuchi is constantly taking us to a place that neither she or we can quite yet see. “

Glad to have this solo by Keiko Higuchi on appeared 2 times with An’archives with Albedo Fantatstica and Albedo Gravitas. Here we have her with Louis Inage (Majutsu no Niwa, Yakouchu, Ochibonoame…) on a couple of tracks

Meitei LP & CD

Meitei CD Kofu – Kitchen Label

On ‘Kofū’, Meitei masterfully closes his trilogy of lost Japanese moods with an engaging interrogation of artforms and aesthetics as a provocation — or, as fashioned in the album’s subtitle, a “satire of old Japanese aesthetics”. Each entry’s distinct flavour has earned Meitei acclaim for conjuring a bygone culture through his transportive form of ambient music. ‘Kofū’ arrives as a deconstruction of this approach.

These stories cloud the overall mood of ‘Kofū’, but Meitei takes a Mizoguchi-like approach to mould that unimaginable pain with tenderness. ‘Oiran I’’s hidden subtitle is Hana, and ‘Oiran II’ is Shiokaze. As Meitei explains, “Hana means gorgeous and glorious. Shiokaze is the sea breeze — for her life.” Tracks like ‘Urameshi-ya’ and ‘Gen’ei’ provide a meditative space amidst the turbulence, while ‘Shōnen’ takes a turn for the cinematic. The eight-minute odyssey is engulfed by shadowy voice loops, mixed best for a headphone experience in a solitary setting.

Meitei bids farewell to an expedition first sparked by a passion for a long-forgotten cultural past. ‘Kofū’ is a definitive conclusion with an open invitation to listeners from Japan and beyond — encouraging continued appreciation of this sacred part of history, wholly untethered from the world at large.

Glass-mastered CD housed in a die-cut outer case with rounded obi, 16pp inserts with words in Japanese and English from Meitei. Offset printed, full colour on premium matt paper.

Meitei LP/CD Kofu II – Kitchen Label

180g heavyweight vinyl in 12″ debossed sleeve with capped obi, 16pp inserts (22 x 14cm) with words in Japanese and English from Meitei. Offset printed, full colour on premium matt paper. LP ships with tracking. Glass-mastered CD housed in a die-cut customised debossed outer case (14.5 x 14.5cm) with rounded obi, 16pp inserts with words in Japanese and English from Meitei. Offset printed, full colour on premium matt paper.

Meitei sounds right at home celebrating the past he first reimagined in his previous work. The merriment is palpable in its first two tracks of Kofū II – a loop of cheery whistling amidst the clanking of wood leads into strings, cricket sounds and flutes, all united in bustling harmony. Happyaku-yachō is where it comes into focus. Pitch-shifted vocal samples roam around in the crowded sonic field as Meitei conjures the vibrancy of a dense Edo of the past. The affair becomes bittersweet as the track leads into the desolate Kaworu, a composi- tional piece lifted from his Komachi sessions – a final requiem to his late grandmother.

The album is bursting with spectral vignettes of wandering samurais, red lanterns, ninjas, puppet theatres, poets, even a vengeful assassin (Shurayuki hime, known to Western audiences as ‘Lady Snow- blood’).
